PRESS RELEASE Ryan Lewis
British Formula-3-Championship Qualifying Round 21/22
12th pole for champion Lewis

Ryan Lewis will start Round 21 of the Avon Tyres British Formula 3 Scholarship at Spa this afternoon from pole position, his 12th of the season. The 20 year-old newly-crowned champion clocked up a time of 2:19.459 to line up one tenth of a second ahead of Ronayne O'Mahony. The session, which started on a damp track, saw Ryan running second overall until the session was red-flagged to remove the Dallara F301 of Stephen Jelley who crashed heavily at Eau Rouge.

As the track dried out, the quicker Championship cars improved to push Ryan down to 18th overall and leading Scholarship car, although the T-Sport driver was unhappy with the margin by which he secured pole. After losing valuable time in yesterday's free practice session, following a spin which beached him in the notorious Spa gravel, Ryan was forced to use today's 45 minute qualifying as a test.

“I'm not particularly pleased with that, although I've got pole, I'm only a tenth ahead of O'Mahony, which I'm really not happy about, said Ryan. “I didn't perform as well as I should have done, I should have gone a lot quicker really. This car's been a lot quicker round here but with the time lost in yesterday's free practice, I ended up using the qualifying session as a test. I had spin early on in the session too, on the exit of Rivage I caught a white line on the power and it just spun me right round, all the kerbs where still quite wet. It started to dry out quite a bit during the session and I probably should have pushed a bit harder but the engine didn't feel quite right. Thankfully it was just a crank sensor that was damaged, I think because we picked up a stone or something.”

Today's round 21 will take place at 15.55 and the results of that race will determine the grid for Sunday's race (Round 22) which takes place at 11.40.
