Formula BMW ADAC Championship: Zandvoort
CHRIS VAN DER DRIFT CONSOLIDATES CHAMPIONSHIP POSITIONS AT ZANDVOORT

Zandvoort – With an eighth and fifth finishing position the Dutch New Zealander Chris van der Drift has succesfully consolidated his positions in the regular championship as well as in the Rookie Cup 2004 this weekend. Two mature races at his ‘home track’ Zandvoort resulted in valuable points for the young driver competing for the team of former world champion F1 Keke Rosberg! Winner of both races was Sebastian Vettel, who already is champion with 15 wins this season.

The Formula BMW ADAC is seen as a class for young talented driver and is comparable with the popular Benelux Formula Renault 2000 championship. All races are held during Formula 1 and Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters weekends so a broad (media) attention is guaranteed. The use of identical cars, engines, tyres and fuel makes sure that the driver is the most important ingredient for success in this championship. It is an ideal opportunity for companies to show them internationally. For questions or information on the diversity of possibilities on PUBLIC RELATIONS and/or SPONSORSHIP you can contact Tony van der Drift (+31 6 463 472 84 / tony@vandymotorsport.com).

During his first visit to the circuit in the dunes of Noord-Holland, Van der Drift qualified sixth for both races on Saturday morning. Although ‘Vandy’ had a great start during the first race in which he immediately passed two others, the lack of grip in his tyres caused him to fall back to eighth.

Due to fog on Sunday morning the second race was delayed a little bit and shortened by two laps in order to remain on schedule for the rest of the day’s program. Van der Drift again started from the third row on the grid and stayed out of trouble in the opening stages. He had an interesting batlle with fellow newbie and ‘Rookie Cup’ title rival Sebastien Buemi. After almost twenty minutes of intense racing Van der Drift finished fifth and remained leader in the Rookie standings with four races still to go. In the overall championship the 12-times(!) go-kart champion still holds an impressive fourth place.

Chris van der Drift: “I really enjoyed this wonderful circuit and the great reactions I got form the enthusiastic home crowd this weekend. Although I was not able to get on the podium like I did at Oschersleben, I am happy with my result. In both important championships I consolidated my positions. I am looking forward to the two remaining weekends at Brno (Czech Republic) and Hockenheim (Germany) where I of course will try to score more trophies to add to the five I already have!”
