01 August 2004
PRESS RELEASE Chris van der Drift
Formula BMW ADAC Championship: Nürburgring
CHRIS VAN DER DRIFT DOESN’T GET IN THE RIGHT GEAR AT NURBURGRING

Nürburg – False gear ratios prevented Chris van der Drift to repeat his double podiumfinish from the last event (Norisring). After having qualified himself in respectively ninth and eigth spot for both races, the Dutch’ New-Zealander finished both races in the same positions. Though Van der Drift lost out on points in the regular Championship, he still leads the Rookie Cup 2004.

As all contenders make use of the same chassis, engine, tyres and fuel, the Formula BMW ADAC Series is a solid championship for young upcoming drivers. Because all races are being held during prestigious Formula 1 or DTM events, a large amount of (media)attention is guaranteed. Therefore this series offers an ideal opportunity for companies or brands to present themselves on a international platform. For any questions or information regarding PUBLIC RELATIONS and/or SPONSORING opportunities, please contact Tony van der Drift (+31 6 463 472 84 / tony@vandymotorsport.com)

In qualifying on Saturday morning the New-Zealand multiple go-kart champion was already slowed down by false gear ratio’s, but because both sessions are interfered with a pause of only 10 minutes there wasn’t enough time to handle the problem. In the first race on Saturday afternoon Chris however recovered himself well by driving an aggressive race which at one point saw him competing for P4. But because he was involved in an accident not much later, Vandy had to settle for ninth.
The second race on Sunday went more or less the same. After a quick start the Kiwi driver was again able to win some positions, but lost those later on, now because of a lack of speed due to the false gear ratios again.

Van der Drift: “It’s a shame we couldn’t get more out of this weekend, but after all I’m very happy to still be leading the Rookie Cup 2004. I’m also already looking forward to next weekend (round 7: Oschersleben) because I know we’ll be competitive after our succesfull test there in the beginning of this year!”
