Michael Devaney has taken his first Formula 3 Race Victory in Saturdays
Round 3 of the Recaro German Formula 3 Cup which was held at Oschersleben,
Germany. Starting from pole position Michael maintained first position
into the first corner and over the 18 laps built his lead up to
6.4 seconds while also setting fastest lap of the race at 1.21.756.
Backing off on the final few laps Michael took the win by 4.373
seconds from Germanys Thomas Holzer and Timo Lienemann. The victory
was added with a 4th place finish from 4th on the grid in Sundays
Round 4 and the results from the weekend have shot Michael up from
5th to 2nd in the overall Championship with only 7 points separating
him from the top of the leaderboard.
''This
weekend has been absolutely fantastic, JB Motorsport and I have
worked really hard in the little time we have had together because
of the late deal and it has all paid off with my first F3 victory.
We got the most points out of anyone this weekend and to be lying
second in the championship with only few points separating me from
first is exactly what we wanted to do this weekend. Our 4th place
finish in Round 4 could have been better as I was lying in 3rd position
and catching 2nd until I came to a backmarker and got squeezed by
him in the fast right hander and lost my 3rd position. But when
we look at where we were after Hockenheim and where we are now in
the Championship is it really encouraging for the rest of the season."

The
Recaro German Formula 3 cup will now move on to Assen in Holland
where Rounds 5 and 6 will take place on the 22nd/23rd of May and
the www.seahorse.ie backed driver is confident of repeating his
results from Oschersleben "I´m now hoping to score a
double podium at Assen and after this great weekend in Oschersleben
I think it is definitely possible to achieve this and maybe take
my second F3 race win. My main focus remains the overall championship
so I´m looking to take in as many points as possible in the
two races"
At
19 years old he is also the youngest ever Irish driver to win a
Formula 3 race and has also emulated his Father, Bernard, who also
took victory in a Formula 3 race in British F3 back in 1979.
