Massive entry for Formula 3 race at Zandvoort
All Formula 3 stars present at Marlboro Masters 2001 Zandvoort, July 13, 2001

No less than 46 drivers from 17 countries have been entered for participation in the eleventh Marlboro Masters of Formula 3 at Circuit Park Zandvoort, August 4 and 5. Among the participants will be all top drivers from the British, French and German Formula 3-championships plus the first two drivers from the Japanese series. This means that the top of the Formula 3 will be at Zandvoort to decide who will take the coveted trophy home. Add to that the demonstrations of, among others, F1 world champion Michael Schumacher, rally-ace Tommi Mäkinen and the touring car drivers from the DTM, and it becomes clear that no true motorsport fan should miss this year's Marlboro Masters!

The status of the Marlboro Masters is clearly underlined by the fact that there is no other Formula 3-race anywhere during the first week-end of August. That allows all teams and drivers to compete at Zandvoort. And they do so indeed, judging by the impressive number of competitors that have entered for the event.

It is an interesting phenomenon that, three weeks prior to the event, a Japanese driver is leading the points standings in France, Germany and Great Britain, whereas a French driver is in front of the Japanese championship. In the British series, Takuma Sato is miles ahead of his rivals and is commonly regarded as a favourite for the Marlboro Masters. Toshihiro Kaneishi is in the lead of the German championship, he finished fifth in last year's Masters. Ryo Fukada is currently first in the French series and, with Benoit Treluyer, the points leader of the Japanese championship is also coming to Zandvoort.

But obviously, it doesn't stop there. Dutch Formula 3-outfit Van Amersfoort Racing from Eemnes, not far from Zandvoort, is taking part with its regular drivers, Dutchman Marco du Pau and Italian Marc Caldonazzi. Belgian honours are being represented by JB Motorsport from Roeselare in West-Flanders with Tom van Bavel and Nicolas Stelandre. Two drivers will be racing who already are official test drivers with Formula 1-teams: German André Lotterer (Jaguar Racing) and Briton Anthony Davidson, last year's winner of the coveted "Young Driver of the Year Award" in Great Britain. Australian Ryan Briscoe, Toyota's junior driver, will make his Formula 3-debut at Zandvoort. So far this season, he has been a strong contender in the Formula Renault Eurocup.

In the practice sessions on Saturday, drivers will attempt to qualify themselves for participation in the race on Sunday. This qualifying will already be an exciting affair, as only the 37 fastest drivers will be admitted to the race. One more reason, not to miss any of the action on the Saturday!

Entry tickets are available in pre-sale at 35 guilders for the entire week-end (Saturday and Sunday). Tickets can be bought at most Shell-stations in The Netherlands and at the sales points of Ticketbox (Internet www.ticketbox.nl for locations). At the entrance of the Circuit Park Zandvooort, tickets will be sold during the event at 40 guilders.
